Have a Heart Volunteer Day for Caitlin’s Smiles

Caitlin’s Smiles will hold a combination volunteer day and fundraiser on Saturday, February 1, 2020, from 10 am to 4 pm, at New Hope Church, 584 Colonial Club Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112.

“Have a Heart Day is a great opportunity for people to help us send smiles to hospitalized children,” commented Cheryl Hornung, founder and director of Caitlin’s Smiles. “Please join us on February 1, and help spread smiles!” Hornung started the organization in 2004 in memory of her 7-year-old daughter who lost her three-year battle with cancer in 2000. “Caitlin would have loved what we are doing.”

Volunteers will decorate gift bags, assemble craft kits, and make greeting cards to “spread smiles” to children with chronic or life-threatening conditions in hospitals and clinics in the Mid-Atlantic Region. These goodies are included in the “Bags of Smiles” and coping kits sent by Caitlin’s Smiles to over 170 health care facilities. In 2019, over 12,000 Bags of Smiles and 18,000 coping kits were distributed in Pennsylvania and nine other states.

A bake and lunch sale will run during the volunteer day.

People wishing to volunteer for Caitlin's Smiles’ Have a Heart Day should register online here. Craft sessions will run in one-and-a-half hour periods, from 10 am to 11:30 am, noon to 1:30 pm, and 2 to 3:30 pm.

The cost of admission is one NEW craft item. Suggested items are NEW/UNUSED coloring books, plastic lacing (gimp), activity books (Sudoku, crosswords, word searches, etc.), Play-Doh®, Play-Doh minis, chenille stems, and zip-locking baggies (quart/sandwich/snack).

The flyer can be found here.
