Happy Valentine’s Day!

Our volunteers and donors “have a heart” for kids in the hospital, and you can tell by all they do with Caitlin’s Smiles! This month will be a busy one as heartfelt fundraisers, donations, and volunteering happens on a daily basis at Smiles Central – and beyond! Take a look at what’s going on!

Come to the Chuck E. Cheese on Union Deposit Road in Harrisburg on Tuesday, February 15, from 3 to 9 pm. Bring a NEW coloring book and receive 10 free game tokens. Bring the flyer and 15% of your purchase of food and tokens will go to Caitlin’s Smiles AND you’ll get 10 more free tokens! Meet Miss Teenage Pennsylvania, Kayte Trexler while you are there! SAVE THE DATE! We received word this week that the date for the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community has been changed to Saturday, May 14, 2011. We’ve heard from many people asking whether we are participating this year and the answer is YES! Visit the website to register and/or make donations.

One of our great volunteers, Carol Koppenhaver, has just finished compiling our hospital delivery numbers for 2010 and found that we made and delivered OVER 9,000 Bags of Smiles last year! Wow! Plus, we sent over 90,000 craft kits and over 13,000 toys to hospitals! Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to add 13 new hospitals to our regular “send” list, so we are now delivering or shipping to 66 hospitals and clinics in Pennsylvania and adjacent states It’s no wonder we were so busy last year! Our favorite high school service groups, the Key Clubs of Pennsylvania, are getting ready for their big convention in Hershey at the beginning of March. They’ve been busy all year long holding fundraisers, making craft kits and Bags of Smiles, and supporting Caitlin’s Smiles across PA. We just heard from one school, Southwestern High School in Hanover, raised $3,650 for us, mainly through their powder puff football game! Thank you, SWHS! We are especially grateful and gratified when we see kids helping kids.

We have lots of “kids helping kids” at Caitlin’s Smiles, including an amazing Doh Donation from Good Shepherd School in Camp Hill, PA. Rescheduled twice because of snow days, Good Shepherd delivered nearly 400 pounds of Play-Doh to our door for the second year in a row, plus a check for $400! Thank you so much, GSS!

Local businesses, homeschoolers, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, high school athletes, seniors doing senior projects, life skills students, art students, Pioneer Clubs, youth groups – these are just some of the “kids helping kids” who donate or volunteer for Caitlin’s Smiles.
