Caitlin’s Smiles will hold a combination volunteer day and fundraiser on Saturday, February 4, 2017, from 10 am to 4 pm, at New Hope Church, 584 Colonial Club Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
Volunteers will make craft kits and cheery greeting cards and decorate gift bags to bring smiles to children with chronic or life-threatening conditions in hospitals and clinics in the Mid-Atlantic region. These goodies are included in the “Bags of Smiles” sent from Caitlin’s Smiles to over 100 health care facilities. In 2016, over 13,000 Bags of Smiles were distributed in Pennsylvania and nine other states.
People wishing to volunteer for Caitlin’s Smiles’ “Have a Heart” Day should register online through the events calendar on Caitlin’s Smiles website. Craft sessions will run in two-hour periods, from 10 am to noon, noon to 2 pm, and 2 to 4 pm. Prizes will be raffled throughout the day.
The cost of admission is one craft item. Suggested NEW crafts include: coloring books, pony beads, plastic lacing (gimp), Play-Doh®, activity books (Sudoku, crosswords, word searches, etc.), chenille stems, and zip-locking baggies (sandwich/snack).
A soup sale, bake sale, and blood drive will run during the volunteer day. Soups can be purchased by the bowl or quart.
The Central Pennsylvania Bloodmobile will also be on hand to receive blood donations. Blood donation is a short, simple process that enhances and saves the lives of local patients. Donating blood may be one of the most important things anyone can do. It is a safe and easy process, and it takes approximately 45 minutes.
“‘Have a Heart’ Day is a great opportunity for people to help us send smiles to hospitalized children,” commented Cheryl Hornung, founder and director of Caitlin’s Smiles. Please join us on February 4th, and help us send these smiles!
