Amazon workers from all over the region delivered their Play-Doh donations to Smiles Central on a chilly Spring Day in March. Their donations were the result of their annual “Battle of the Buildings” competition where workers from the buildings battle to collect the most Play-Doh for our organization.
Amazon representatives expected 45,000 cans of Play-Doh to be donated. They surpassed that expectation! Two additional warehouses, who didn’t pass along their tallies, brought their collections, pushing the total to over 50,000 cans! The winner of the “Battle of the Buildings” was TEB6 from Cranbury, New Jersey, collecting 8,814 cans. A big thank you to Amazon Employee and Caitlin’s Smiles Board Member Mary Ellen Mathis for taking the lead on this collection, now in its 8th year! In addition to the Play-Doh, dozens of workers volunteered to assemble craft kits, decorate bags, and create cards of encouragement for the hospitalized kids. Thanks to Amazon for encouraging their staff to be involved in local causes and thanks to everyone who volunteered and donated making this Amazon Day a big success.
Play-Doh is a great toy for stress relief and a favorite among children of all ages. This donation will keep the Bags of Smiles and Coping Kits stocked with Play-Doh through the end of 2025. Bags of Smiles contain two cans, and Coping Kits contain one can. Last year 49,448 cans of Play-Doh were utilized in our arts & crafts outreach. To view more photos from Amazon Day, click here.
