The first time I heard of Caitlin’s Smiles, I was a nervous wreck, sitting in a small activity room at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center waiting for my daughter’s first surgery. On the table, there was a bin with crafts. My daughter and I sat and made bracelets for each other with the supplies. Also in the bag was a note from the volunteers of Caitlin’s Smiles. While my daughter was in surgery, I had the chance to look up the history of CS; and I saw how love and hope came from tragedy.
We’ve had to go back 3 more times for procedures at Hopkins. Each time, we made sure to get a craft bag in that small activity room.
Last year, one of our scouts had to stay at WellSpan York Hospital for a week. Her mom sent a picture of her smiling from ear to ear. On her tray table was a gift bag of goodies from Caitlin’s Smiles. That was a sign that we needed to give back to this amazing organization!
Our troop, 20094 in Southern York County, decided to have a Barbie drive inspired by the new Barbie movie. We eventually opened up the drive to our service unit, 231. We were able to collect 60 Barbie’s!
