October is our “Saturday Smiles” month, with special events on each Saturday. Also, our annual PlayDoh Drive begins this month! Help us raise 25,000 cans of dough to fill our Bags of Smiles for a year! Bring your donations to any “ Saturday Smiles” event. October 4 – Monthly Craft Day (2–4 p.m.) at Caitlin’s Smiles, 3303 North 6th Street, Harrisburg. Come join us for an afternoon of assembling craft kits for our Bags of Smiles! Bring a friend and help put smiles on the faces of children with serious or life-threatening illnesses. Pre-registration is required.*
October 4 – Boscov’s “Friends Helping Friends” Shopping Pass Presale & Card-Making (2–5 p.m.) at Boscov’s in the Camp Hill Shopping Center. Stop by Boscov’s, purchase your Shopping Pass for “Friends Helping Friends” Shopping Day (October 21), and make a card for a hospitalized child.
October 11 – Craft Day (2–4 p.m.) at Caitlin’s Smiles, 3303 North 6th Street, Harrisburg. We’ve added an extra Craft Day this month for our “Saturday Smiles” line-up! Spend the afternoon assembling craft kits for hospitalized kids. Help make smiles! Pre-registration is required.*
October 18 – “A Night of Smiles” Art Auction (6–9 p.m.) at the Radisson Hotel, Camp Hill. If you only attend one Caitlin’s Smiles event, then this is the one. Sponsored by CJ Pony Parts, Susquehanna Bank and Deloitte, “A Night of Smiles” will feature a silent auction of pieces donated by local artists. In addition, attendees can bid on some of the most special artwork done by the children whom Caitlin’s Smiles has impacted. Flora Posteraro, co-anchor of abc27’s “Live at Five” and “News at Noon,” will emcee the event. Paul Layser, operations director for the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey, will share how the two organizations partner to serve children. The featured artist for the evening will be Melanie Wendt from “In a Spiral” Jewelry and Metalsmithing, and Paul Zavinsky, featured musician, will be doing a variety of acoustic guitar and vocal tunes.
Tickets for “A Night of Smiles” can be purchased for $50 through our website, by contacting the Caitlin’s Smiles office, or from Gallery@Second, 608 North Second Street, Harrisburg, PA. The ticket price includes appetizers, pasta bar, carving stations, dessert and beverages. There will be a cash bar.
October 25 – Halloween Fun at Boscov’s (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) at Boscov’s in Colonial Park, Camp Hill, Lancaster, Lebanon and York. We’re finishing “Saturday Smiles” with fun at area Boscov’s stores. Join us to make fall crafts, trick-or-treat for candy and make cards for children in area hospitals and clinics.
