Four area retail stores are having supply collection drives for Caitlin’s Smiles. At all of the stores, customers are encouraged to donate a needed item. Once the item is purchased, store staff will take the item and will notify Caitlin’s Smiles that they have donations to pick-up. Volunteers will pick up the items at each store and take them back to Smiles Central where they will be placed into outreach programs like Bags of Smiles, Coping Kits, and Emergency Department Special Outreach.
Two local 2nd & Charles stores are collecting donations of books & toys from their customer for Caitlin’s Smiles. Stores participating are 2nd & Charles Harrisburg (3405 Paxton St., Harrisburg) and 2nd & Charles York store (3000 Whiteford Rd., York). The collection is in full swing and will continue through early December. Associates at the store will accept toy and book donations purchased in their store customers. The books, toys and other items are used in our outreach to children spending time in medical facilities. The items will be used for our Bag of Smiles and Coping Kit Programs. A new toy or book is placed into each Bag of Smiles provided for children staying overnight in hospital rooms. A small toy is placed into each Coping Kit provided to kids spending time at Same Day Surgery Units, ERs, and other medical facilities.
Two Harrisburg area PetSmart stores are collecting donations of their holiday plush animals. Specially made and provided through the PetSmart Charities programs, these are designed for children and pets to use. These animal themed plushies are comforting and fun. The two Harrisburg area stores participating are PetSmart, 4200 Derry St., Harrisburg and PetSmart, 5098 Jonestown Rd., Harrisburg. These are used for special outreach to Emergency Department patients and can be placed into our Bags of Smiles for children staying overnight in hospital rooms.
All of the collections started in October and will continue through early December.
Thanks to all of these stores for having collections and thanks to everyone who donates.
