Over the past 15 years, not many weeks would pass by where we didn’t see Libby. She was one of the first volunteers to come from our neighborhood. Often walking from her house just a few blocks away. She was a very caring, generous, private volunteer. She loved children, and the charities where she volunteered/supported showed that.
During those 15 years of service, Libby volunteered for 2,593 hours. In addition to her volunteer time here at Smiles Central, Libby was our ‘Bag Sponsor’ for several years where she would donate funds to cover the cost of the paper bags that were used for our Bags of Smiles. In addition to her donations, she would decorate thousands of bags over the years at her home during her free time. We called her our “Bag Lady.”
At her funeral, the Rabbi shared that when Libby would volunteer, others would ask how she was doing and she always replied, “I’m wonderful!” no matter what was going on in her life. That was her standard response always when she volunteered for us, too.
Not only did Libby leave an impact on the lives of the hospitalized children we serve, but she also had an impact in the Harrisburg community with the generosity of her time and funds, along with her genuine and dedicated spirit. We are blessed that she supported Caitlin’s Smiles and that she was our friend. We will miss her.
You were wonderful! Rest easy, Libby.
